After a decade in #circularity, I have compiled a list featuring 100 people and organizations, who I think you should follow. In this twenty-third post, I am focusing on people and organizations pushing circularity forward in the #builtenvironment.

89) Césare Peeren and Jan Jongert are the co-founders of Superuse Studios. For Césare and Jan, re-use is an integral part of design – in architecture, as well as in interior and furniture design. In line with this, their studio uses reclaimed and recycled materials and develops strategies for cities to connect different closed loop systems. In 2012, Superuse founded the platform Oogstkaart, which acts as a marketplace for reusable building materials and allows architects, design professionals, builders, and project developers to acquire materials harvested from existing buildings that have been demolished or renovated.

90) Cody Ryan and Denise Braun are the co-founders of All About Waste. The consultancy creates comprehensive recycling and solid waste management programs for buildings. Amongst others, it carries out waste audits and works to improve the circularity and resource efficiency at banks, campuses, factories, hospitals, hotels, offices, residential and commercial buildings, shopping centers, stadiums, and warehouses. Cody and Denise work to make zero waste and sustainable buildings a reality. They also work to increase the savings and decrease the environmental footprints of these buildings.

91) Marthijn PoolSascha Glasl, and Tjeerd J. Haccou are the co-founders of Space&Matter. Their architecture office combines architecture, urban design, and strategic thinking. In this context, the three work to bring circularity and inclusiveness into the built environment. Using circular economy principles and a community-focused approach, they co-create strategies, buildings, and neighborhoods that are functional and sustainable. Their approach is focused on maximizing adaptive use, by creating space for changing needs and the future reuse of materials and structures. The goal of Marthijn, Sascha, and Tjeerd is to create spaces that contribute positively to communities and the environment.

92) Thomas M. Rau founded RAU Architects. The architecture practice has been a frontrunner of sustainable, circular, carbon-neutral, and energy-neutral buildings since 1992. It designed one of the first buildings to have its roofs rented out to produce energy. Thomas also co-founded Madaster, which acts as a global online registry of products and materials within the built environment. Throughout his work, Thomas advocates for the design and creation of structures that are durable, repairable, and easy to dismantle. In line with this, he is also a keynote speaker and the co-author of the bestselling book “Material Matters”.
