After 10 years of working in circularity, I have put together a list featuring 100 people and organizations broadly working in #circularity, who I think you should follow. The list is being released across 25 posts from now until Christmas. I therefore like to think of it as a bit of an unconventional #zerowaste alternative to an advent calendar — packed with little stories and wisdoms as we close out this year.
I originally struggled with deciding who should go first on my list, until it struck me that it would make sense to start with the “circular storytellers” because that would allow all of you to enjoy their content in parallel to this list coming out. In light of that, here are three amazing #women and one brilliant team to follow, who work to tell stories and spread awareness about circularity and people working in the field. I can only recommend looking into their work and subscribing to their podcasts and newsletters.
1) Brooking Gatewood is the host of The Indisposable Podcast® by Upstream. The podcast aims to “make throw-away go away”. To achieve this, it looks at today’s throw-away culture, explores the intersection between plastic pollution, climate change, and environmental justice, and offers practical solutions to plastic pollution. The idea is to allow listeners to learn from different changemakers working in and on reuse.
2) Caitlyn Socwell works as a global circular sustainability consultant at The Waste Not Spot. She writes a monthly newsletter about all things circular, and she is also one of the hosts of the Millennials Gone Circular Podcast. Through her podcast work, she aims to inspire millennials across the globe to better understand circularity and then put that knowledge into action.
3) MaryEllen Etienne is the creator and author of the Women in Circularity® series. Through her work, she shines a bright light on the women pushing the circular economy forward. She has published a wonderful interview series with female circularity leaders at Resource Recycling, Inc., she hosts and moderates live events around the impact of women within circularity, and she is currently working on an eBook titled “Women in Circularity: Stories of Innovation and Resilience in the Circular Economy”.
4) Janina Nieper, Robert Blaauboer, and Pardis Faqiri are the creators of the Circular Pioneers Podcast. Their podcast focuses on uplifting individuals and organizations working to make the circular economy a reality. By interviewing experts, innovators, and leaders in circularity, they aim to provide listeners with insights into how the transition from a linear to a circular system works.
