100 People & Organizations in Circularity to Follow in 2025: Part 17 of 25

After 10 years in #circularity, I have compiled a list featuring 100 people and organizations, who I think you should follow. It is being released across 25 posts until Christmas and acts as an unconventional #zerowaste alternative to an advent calendar — packed with little stories and wisdoms.

In this seventeenth post, I am focusing on people and organizations creating new channels, #platforms, and approaches to reducing waste. In light of this, here are two teams and two individuals to follow, who are working to create a world with no unnecessary waste.

65) Jiacai LauNicholas Lim, and Jong Kai Jie Tylor co-founded TreeDots. Frustrated with the large amounts of perfectly good food that was being thrown away due to inefficient logistics, mismatched expectations between sellers and buyers, and outdated regulations, they created a platform to tackle food loss. Their platform redistributes surplus and “imperfect” food by connecting suppliers with different buyers – including cafés, cafeterias, caterers, cloud kitchens, restaurants, and small food stalls. TreeDots saved 913 tons of food from landfills between 2018 and 2019. By 2025, they hope to save 2 million tons of food from going to waste.

66) Joost de Kluijver founded Closing the Loop. Through its “One for One” service, the social enterprise links the purchase of new electronics with reducing electronic waste. In practice, this means that when a customer adds a new phone, tablet, or laptop to the market, Closing the Loop collects and recycles a scrap phone, tablet, or laptop. Through the supply chain monitoring tool “Chainpoint”, customers are given insights and transparency around when and where the relevant e-waste was collected, stored, and recycled.

67) Najla Abdellatif Vallander founded Zero Waste Palestine. The change agency works to inspire households in the Middle East and North Africa to adopt waste-free and sustainable practices. Zero Waste Palestine started as a blog in 2017, and it now runs several social media channels and a popular Instagram account with over 175 000 followers. As of October 2024, Najla had achieved over 30 million views with her educational content and over five million views through news coverage. Najla has hosted over 80 workshops, and she is currently writing an e-book titled “Zero Waste Life of My Ancestors”.

68) Saasha Celestial-One and Tessa Clarke are the co-founders of Olio. Their app allows users to pass on items they no longer need to others looking for these nearby. Through this, Olio helps to prevent unnecessary new purchases and fights the production of waste, while creating the opportunity to help others and build community. The app partners with organizations globally, and it is used by over 8 million people.
