100 People & Organizations in Circularity to Follow in 2025: Part 4 of 25

After 10 years of working in #circularity, I have put together a list featuring 100 people and organizations, who I think you should follow. The list is being released across 25 posts until Christmas. I therefore like to think of it as an unconventional #zerowaste alternative to an advent calendar — packed with little stories and wisdoms as we close out this year.

In this fourth post, I am focusing on people and organizations advocating for stronger #policies and #laws on circularity. In light of this, here are are two teams and two individuals to follow, who are pushing for meaningful change in our governments and democracies. I recommend reading their publications and newsletters.

13) Antonia Sommerfeld and Verónica Ruiz Abou-Nigm are legal scholars looking into the role that private international law can play in supporting circularity within the fashion industry. Antonia is a senior research fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law. Verónica is a professor for private international law at the University of Edinburgh Law School. Together, they are investigating the circular business models and legal framework that would allow sustainability and economic efficiency to co-exist in global supply chains.

14) Arjan Hassing and Romy Snijders are the co-founders of CircuLaw (started as an initiative by the City of Amsterdam and Dark Matter Labs). The platform helps policymakers, project leads, and procurement specialists understand and make better use of circularity laws and regulations. By helping them find, select, and apply the relevant legal instruments, CircuLaw accelerates the circular economy. The platform also helps to make production chains more circular by improving public and private collaboration.

15) Tom Voege is a policy director at the PRO Circularity Alliance and GRS PRO. His work revolves around strengthening the policy frameworks on extended producer responsibility and the circular economy within Europe. He writes a monthly newsletter about Europe’s transition to a circular economy called “The Circular” and a weekly newsletter on EU policy developments shaping the circular economy called “The Bubble”.

16) Walter R. Stahel is considered a circular economy pioneer. He is the founder of the Product-Life Institute in Geneva, which is a not-for-profit consulting organization that develops circular strategies and policies. Through his work, Walter has – amongst others – explored “common utilisation instead of singular consumption” and sustainable taxation as tools to move away from throwawayism. He lectures, publishes papers, speaks at conferences, and works as a consultant with industry and policymakers to develop circular solutions.
